What I'm Voting For
Everything increases. Operating costs. Growth rates. Utility and maintenance fees. But, next year, one thing isn't increasing - funding for our schools. In fact, state and federal funding is decreasing by nearly $3 million.
The replacement levy will help us offset this loss and maintain the high standard of education we've been able to build for our kids over the past several years.
What does this levy do?
- Replaces the current levy
- Funds 1/3 of all district staff
- Funds all academic and athletic extracurricular programs
- Creates community pride in a job well done despite declining state support
Why a levy?
Because our children are the most important asset to the growth and future of our community. We can't afford not to give them the best education possible.
Here are more facts to consider when looking at the issues around this levy:
- Repeated defeat of levies, no matter the reason, affects property values, the ability to attract good teachers and general civic pride.
- A school has no way of earning income; it is not a business. We have an obligation to see to it that our programs are maintained
Levy funds will help keep 33% of district staff employed
The average cost per home will be $3.44 more per month
District graduation rates are 86% or better, 16% higher than the national
